Traffic Guide All about traffic

What to do if a CHP officer fails to file a traffic citation?

I was cited for a noisy exhaust (i.e. given a fix-it ticket for it) back in July. The court date on the ticket is either October 1 or October 10.

Of course, I need to clarify the court date. I also want to request an extension since I've been able to obtain extensions for other tickets, this one will cost a lot of money etc.

Unfortunately the online and phone systems for inquiring about citations - and now an in-person visit to the court house - revealed that the CHP officer who cited me hasn't yet recorded the citation in the system(s). This makes it tough to clarify anything, let alone get an extension.

Staff at the court house said that the officer should enter the citation within 4-6 weeks of issuing it, but it has been 8 weeks. The only advice they could offer? Check back again using the phone and online systems...that I've been checking. Of course, they said nothing about it already being 8 weeks...and had no advice what to do when October arrives and the systems continue to report that they don't know my citation number. (Gotta love paying for this incompetence!) :) LOL

How can I get a handle on this citation? My thoughts are to visit my nearby CHP station and/or contact an attorney; but with October a few weeks away, time is running out; and I'm unclear how either route will yield certain results.

All I want is to have the systems that my tax dollars fund know about the damn citation I was issued (to patch California's joke of a budget) so I can respond to it like any other. Let's see if the Internet can help where California has failed. ;)

  1. What I would do is call the district attorney for
Where you live & ask them what the statue of filing
A citation is. All states are different, the officer may
Have just waited until x amount of citations in his book
Were ready for processing. I would keep checking back.
    Good luck
