How much of total search engine traffic does Google control?

I hear a lot of conflicting information about this, and would like to have a break down of how much search engine traffic do Google, Yahoo, and Bing control from internet searches. Thanks, and sources are appreciated!

  1. EducationMan,

Here is a compilation of top search providers as they appear in Nielsen’s most recent Top Search Sites Report (April 2010)—top 6 doesn’t change over years, except slightly for percentages.

Nielsen is the renowned leader in measurement and information (see link for the report in the source section below).

    1. Google Search (65.1%)

    2. Yahoo! Search (13.5%)
    search.yahoo.com

    3. MSN/Windows Live/Bing Search (12.9%)
    http://www.bing.com

    4. AOL Search (2.5%)
    search.aol.com

    5. Ask.com Search (1.9%)
    http://www.ask.com
http://www.askkids.com (their latest baby, more and more popular though)

    6. My Web Search (1.1%)
    http://www.mywebsearch.com

    7. Comcast Search (powered by Google) (<1%)
    search.comcast.net

    8. NexTag Search (<1%)
    http://www.nextag.com

    9. WhitePages.com Network Search (<1%)
    http://www.whitepages.com

    10. Yellow Pages Search (<1%)
    http://www.yellowpages.com

Then we have, among other backpackers:

    BizRate Search (<1%)
    http://www.bizrate.com

AT&T Worldnet Search (powered by Google) (<1%)
    http://www.worldnet.att.net/search

    Dogpile.com Search (<1%)
    http://www.dogpile.com

Note: The lesson learned—totally overlooked aside from “mere” registration in regular search engines—is that you need to be found in both Yellow and White Pages, as well.
