Traffic Guide All about traffic

I’m curious, has the price of fuel reduced the number of traffic fatalities on the nations highways?

Traffic density, especially after 7 PM in my area, seems to be much reduced.

Has the reduction in billions of miles driven by Americans reduced the fatalities or is it too early to have good responsible statistics, and if so, as a police officer can you anecdotally relate to us your impression of what you have experienced on the streets?

  1. One thing I’ve noticed this summer… there seems to be less speeders. People know cars are less fuel efficient at high speeds, and are slowing down to save gas. Considering speed is usually a factor in fatal crashes, I would expect it may reduce the severity of some injuries.

However, there are always going to be those who think time is more important than money. For them, less traffic means more open road to speed on. This may take away from any savings from most people reducing their speed.

  2. I agree with trooper – some people are driving slower to save fuel (myself included) so that might have some impact, if only minor.
